Auditions for membership in the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra will be held on Friday, September 10 and Saturday, September 11, in the Music Building on the campus of Dordt College. Anyone wishing to play in the orchestra for the first time must audition and all student members need to re-audition each year.

NISO presents three concerts per season in addition to the annual Concert for Children which will be held on November 16 for area 5th and 6th grade students. Now entering its 25th season, this year’s season is aptly titled A Season of Celebration with guest conductors Jeffrey L. Paul, Timothy McGarvey, and Christopher Stanichar leading the orchestra.

Highlights of this season include music by Respighi, Sibelius, and Weber’s Andante and Hungarian Rondo featuring John Tomkins, bassoonist, at the Fall Concert on November 16. The Winter Pops Concert on January 22 will include the high school show choirs from Le Mars, MOC-FV, and Sheldon High Schools as our special guests. The April 5 Spring Concert will showcase works by Strauss, Smetana, Respighi, and the Ravel Alborada del gracioso performed by Synchronicity, Piano and Percussion Duo. As an added bonus, the orchestra will play host to a guest concert by the distinguished Boston Brass on April 16.

For more information or to schedule an audition, contact Missy Mulder, administrative assistant of the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra at 712.722.6230 or niso@dordt.edu.
