to host RAGBRAI!

    Veterans’ Memorial Project       Summer Celebration

Sioux Center is excited to host an extra special RAGBRAI – The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa - for the fourth time this July. What makes this RAGBRAI so special? This year will be the 40th anniversary – congratulations to RAGBRAI! This 40th year will hold more than 10,000 bike riders and will take them 471 miles across Iowa to end in Clinton. Riders will begin their journey July 21 and stop in several overnight towns – Cherokee, Lake View, Webster City, Marshalltown, Cedar Rapids, and ending in Anamosa on July 28. It is expected that 60 percent of the riders will be from places outside Iowa – including about 20 countries.

The Sioux Center RAGBRAI website, www.siouxcenterragbrai.com, includes information all about the event. The site includes pictures of the T-shirts that are now on sale showing the town theme of “It’s downhill from here”. Just fill out this order form and return it to the Sioux Center Chamber Office at 303 N Main Ave. Checks can be made payable to Sioux Center RAGBRAI. The site also includes the volunteer form – several volunteers are needed to make the event a success and there’s still time to help! You can also learn about hosting opportunities, entertainment, the RAGBRAI route map, and so much more. With so much planned for this year’s event, you’ll want to check out the website!

The Memorial Project for Sioux Center has been underway and lead by a special committee comprised of the Sioux Center American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary, and Veterans’ of Foreign Wars. They hope it will serve as an ongoing educational opportunity that will keep the purpose of the monument at the forefront of our community for present and future generations. The committee sees the Memorial as serving as a reminder to present and future generations of Sioux Center citizens that we must never lose sight of the cost of freedom and we always “remember” those who make sacrifices for it. The website, http://scvets.info/, holds information regarding the design, purpose, fundraising needs, and project details. The hope is to have all fundraising needs met by the summer of 2012. If you’re interested in learning more about this project or donating towards the cause, visit the website.
